Arnor
Arnor is a city in northwest Home, and the birthplace of Astora. It has been abandoned for centuries.
Appearance & Locations
Arnor is located deep in the mountains, and is partially built into the surrounding hills and cliffs. The city is mainly constructed around a castle, which extends out of the mountain above the lower levels of the town. The construction of Arnor has also been compared to that of Minas Tirith. On the outskirts of the city is a solitary tower, which once housed Anathema.
Despite being abandoned for well over a thousand years, Arnor's buildings are eerily well preserved, although close examination reveals humanoid silhouettes burned into many of the walls. The city and surrounding area is also home to an unusual variety of plants and wildlife, notably including unicorn-like mountain goats. This is likely related to the fact that the entirety of Arnor is imbued with celestial energy. The exact source of this energy is unknown, but it seems to be related to the city's sudden abandonment.
Arnor's castle also has a large courtyard, in which lies the grave of most of Legolas's companions.
History
Little of Arnor's history is known. Originally, Astora was king of solely Arnor and the surrounding city-state, before he began conquering neighboring lands. After the Empire expanded across most of Home, the capital was moved to the more central location of the City of Iron. It is unknown who, if anyone, took over direct leadership of the city after this.
Sometime around ~45 a.e., Anathema is locked in a tower just outside Arnor. By 54 a.e., the city is uninhabited. By present day it is largely forgotten, although it seems to be well-known by the Order of the Seal, and possibly also the Order of the Sword. Legolas and his adventuring party also traveled to Arnor at some point, although it seems the majority of them perished in the city.
Campaign Relevance
After receiving a tip from Rin about another Compass piece, the party traveled to Arnor in search of it. After stopping in Appelton and meeting Veracity, she also began accompanying them and acting as their guide. Upon reaching Arnor, Nora, Hei, and Marey began to feel inexplicably nervous. After fighting off mutated goats and investigating Anathema's tower, the party headed towards the castle at Veracity's urging.
In the castle courtyard, the party found the grave of Legolas' companions. Blitz was able to undo the seal on it, allowing the party to obtain the items inside, including a piece of the Compass. At this point, Veracity revealed her true identity, and attempted to kidnap Nora with the help of Huon, who had been lying in wait for the party. During the battle, Veracity killed Nora and attempted to flee with Huon. Blitz was able to both revive Nora and capture Huon, but Veracity escaped with the collected Compass pieces.
After their battle, the party investigated the city further, but soon returned to Appelton.
