Appearance & Personality
Astora had dark hair and a short beard. He is usually depicted wearing ornate armor and his signature horned helmet.
Little is known about Astora's personality. He was evidently a brilliant tactician and warrior. He also seems to have been somewhat bloodthirsty, as Darius Clayborne described him as unable to be reasoned with in battle, leading him to destoy the city of Soma after they had already surrendered. It is possible he later regretted some of his actions in battle, as he sealed away the Eternal Sword and warned against its use.
Story
Astora was born roughly 1800 years prior to the campaign. He was the crown prince of Arnor, and ascended to the throne at the age of 19. Soon after, Arnor was invaded by a larger neighboring kingdom, but Astora successfully defeated the invaders using the Eternal Sword. He then went on to launch his own invasion, eventually conquering all of Home. How he obtained the Sword is unknown.
During Astora's campaign he founded the City of Iron, making it the new capital of his empire. He also destroyed the city of Soma, greatly angering their goddess, Yawalon. After conquering the entire region, he hid the Eternal Sword with the help of Indigo Luminate, and scattered the pieces of the Compass.
Astora's first child, Arthur, was born soon after the completion of the Empire. After his death his descendants continued to rule up until the present day.
Trivia
- Due to the Eternal Sword's similarity to Solis's weapon, there are many theories in Home about a connection between Solis and Astora. These range from religious beliefs, to historical analyses, to a popular series of steamy "Solistora" romance novels.
- Astora has been noted as having a similar appearance to (post-timeskip) Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV.
