As member of the von Himmel family, and a former classmate of Appel's, Lianata is an extremely devoted paladin of Mira. Although a noble house, the von Himmels are plagued by family scandals, and Lianata's devotion to the Solithian cause has much more to do with securing her status than with religious fanaticism.
Appearance & Personality
Lianata has long wavy red hair, blue eyes, and typically wears paladin gear in the Solithian colors of white and gold. Her favored weapon is an ornate spear.
After being transformed into a celestial, her eyes became pupil-less and gold, and her skin gained a gold metallic tinge. She grew several white wings, and portions of her body transformed into sword or melded with her original uniform.
Lianata's personality resembles that of a stereotypical "mean girl". She is derisive to anyone she sees as lesser than herself, particularly Appel. She also takes great pride in her family's high status and wealth, and has been compared to the "ojou-sama" archetype. Lianata has difficulty admitting wrongdoing or expressing genuine feelings, as seen when she struggled to apologize to Appel.
Story
Backstory
As a member of the von Himmel house, Lianata had poor social standing among noble society. She was originally denied entry to the Paladin Academy, and only got in due to Katherine Stormquell's disappearance. Although this opened up a spot for her in the Academy, her benefiting from Katherine's untimely disappearance also led to rumors that the von Himmels had something to do with it.
At paladin school, Lianata mercilessly bullied Appel, giving him the nickname "Hellish Re-puke". She was also in an on-again-off-again relationship with Bingus.
Sha Arc
The party first encountered Lianata at the Temple of Solis in Sha. Upon spotting Appel, Lianata angrily demanded that he turn himself in for abandoning the Solithian army. Before she was able to attack, however, the High Priestess of the temple, Riktheth, ordered her to work together with Appel, and enlisted the party in helping to collect cactus juice. Lianata reluctantly agreed, and also bragged to Appel that she had been dispatched on a secret mission from Mira.
Lianata summoned her beloved steed Princess Buttercup, and rode off into the desert. To her annoyance, Appel was able to outpace her with his own steed, Marey. While harvesting cacti, Lianata and the party were attacked by a Hydra, which they were able to defeat due to Lianata's realization that they could use Appel's Hellish Rebuke ability to stop it's heads from regrowing. After returning to the temple, she reluctantly thanked Appel, and apologized for calling him "Hellish Re-puke" in school, before running away in embarrassment.
Lianata then teamed up with Eltia, promising to help her rob Yawalon in exchange for being able to perform some sort of ritual in Soma. However, after traveling to Soma and defeating Aifread, Lianata killed Yawalon and escaped.
Nova Arc
At Mira's party, Lianata confronted Appel about exposing her cousin's affair, thereby further lowering her family's reputation. After Appel refused to apologize, she angrily stalked off, and was later seen dancing with Bingus.
Later, Mira attempted to perform a transformation ritual on Lianata in order to turn her into a celestial, but was only partially successful. Lianata survived, but was unstable, and unable to fully control her power. Mira decided to attempt the same transformation on Appel, leaving Lianata to guard them. When the rest of the party arrived, Blitz was able to almost singlehandedly defeat Lianata, leading to her demise.
Trivia
- Lianata's name was originally planned to be Natalia, but was scrambled into Lianata in order to avoid similarities to Tales of the Abyss (and real life peoples).
- Lianata has two associated battle themes: Alisha's Battle Theme (Tales of Zestiria DLC), which played during the Hydra fight, and Beat the Angel (Tales of Symphonia) which played during her boss battle.
