Gailardia “Guy” Licec

Guy is a recent graduate of Tower Academy and Hei’s boyfriend. He was responsible for cursing Hei with bunny ears when they were teenagers.

Appearance & Personality

Guy is a tall, human wizard with spikey blonde hair, blue eyes, and a permanent frown. He’s incredibly smart, but he is quick to anger and doesn't get along with most people due to his foul personality. He has a history of cursing people with animal ears when pissed off. Guy dresses neatly in a Tower University uniform and sweater vest and often wears a patchwork wizard hat gifted to him by Hei. Although he acts like he has a stick up his ass, he is oddly caring and is into Hei’s freak behavior.

Story

Backstory

Guy met Hei in Tower when they were both teenagers. Hei scammed him out of a few coins and, in return, Guy cursed him to have bunny ears and a tail.

Years later at Tower Academy, he was framed for selling black market goods by Mimi Contretype. Being a shapeshifter, she was able to operate her shop disguised as Guy and even go out with his girlfriend in his stead. When she was caught and the blame fell to Guy, he lost his scholarship and his girlfriend who liked Guy better when he was Mimi. Guy engaged in a wizard battle with Mimi and, much like with Hei, cursed her with cat ears and a tail. She was able to get away, but Guy vowed to hunt her down again for ruining his life.

For the rest of his time at Tower, Guy was in a battle with Cade Farroris to be the top of their class. He despised Cade for scoring better than him on exams even though he seemed to not study and even accused him of cheating. The two of them shared many classes taught by Professor Mercuria Psyne, who Guy was hoping to do research with.

Tower Arc

Guy ran into Hei again during his job as a Campus Tour Guide. It was hate at second sight as Hei mercilessly bullied him during and after the tour. Enraged and thinking of Hei, Guy polymorphed the Tower student Lore into a rabbit.

The next time Guy ran into the party, he was interrogated about being Cade’s ex (wrong) and asked to be exes by Hei (weird). When he saw Hei talking with Cade, he warned Hei to be careful around him – he was a cheater, after all, and there was no telling what he’d try with Hei.

Guy also attended Cade’s dorm party after a lot of convincing from the party. He was grossed out seeing Hei making out with Cade, but he accepted the alchemy kit Hei got for him from Mimi. When a fight broke out, Guy took the opportunity to relieve some of his jealousy and knocked Cade out with a sword. Hei was extremely attracted to that, so Guy jumped off the roof in embarrassment.

After a few days, Guy was caught outside his classroom by a very bloody and injured Hei. Hei apologized to him for being rude when Guy was trying to warn him about Cade, but he also let it slip that he had feelings for Guy. Hei ran away soon after, and Guy went to class completely dumbfounded. Guy later received an uncharacteristically sappy love letter from Hei and replied by inviting Hei to his graduation. The letter also warned Guy to be careful around Professor Psyne, but his curiosity got the best of him and he decided to investigate her instead.

Through his investigation, Guy was able to find out that Professor Psyne has been going in and out of the Tower sewers for unknown reasons. Hei smacked him for being reckless then gifted him a hand-made wizard hat with a bunny charm. Guy also invited the party to a woods party where Hei took a rhyming potion that made things awkward but strangely endearing. They decided just to dance together and not speak for the rest of the night.

At graduation, disaster struck as students began turning into slaad. Guy was concerned about being able to graduate as well as Hei’s safety (but mostly about being able to graduate), so he ran into the battle. He promised Hei that they could make out if he killed a slaad, and Hei quickly slaughtered them. The two of them kissed in the middle of the battlefield instead of helping with the rest of the fight. With the graduation saved, Guy was able to wear the hat that Hei gave him and get his diploma.

Other Appearances

Hei often sends messages to Guy throughout the campaign via Blitz’s sending spell. When the party was in Ian Blackthorn’s compound, Guy received a sending that said “Hi, Guy. Is your refrigerator running? Haha, kidding. It's Hei. Have you ever laid an egg? I’m serious. Miss you.” Although Guy replied telling Hei never to send him this shit again, he also included a heart which implied he was into it.

Trivia

• Before he had a name, the players just called him “The Guy.” The name and design for Guy was cemented when Ix sent a picture of Guy Cecil from Tales of the Abyss and Tali and Milo immediately went insane bananas over him.
• Unlike his Tales Of counterpart, Guy Licec is mainly a caster. However, he has been known to use spells such as Tenser's Transformation to temporarily give himself Guy Cecil-like strength and agility.
